New in town: Sultana Zwin Olivye Gelato Cafe, Changi Village — Halal Moroccan tacos for the soul

At the rate I’m going, someone should officially name me the ‘Mayor of Changi Village’—I’ll be home, waiting for my key to the place. Have you heard of Moroccan tacos? No? Same here. So, imagine my delight when I found out a new cafe specialising in Moroccan tacos opened in Changi Village last weekend. The husband and wife duo started out as a home-based business a year ago, and as luck would have it, expanded their small business to a cafe in the East—Sultana Zwin Gelato Olivye Cafe.

What is a Moroccan taco? Well, instead of the usual ground beef, tomatoes, and coriander one might find in Mexican tacos, the staples of tacos in Morocco are French fries, cheddar cheese, chopped meat, and seldom any vegetables. Everything’s wrapped and toasted in a package that more closely resembles a Hot Pocket than a loose tortilla, and then doused in various kinds of sauces ranging from Algerian sauce to blue cheese.

The Moroccan Taco comes with various kinds of filling choices such as Tacos Chicken (S$11.90)Tacos Creamy Chicken (S$11.90)Tacos Crispy Chicken (S$11.90)Tacos Beef (S$12.90)Tacos Chicken Ham Beef (S$12.90), and Tacos Mix (S$12.50).

If you don’t consider yourself an adventurous eater, they have classics like Burgers (from S$9.90) and Shawarma Wraps (from S$9.90). They also have Rollies (from S$7.90), which is essentially their rendition of loaded meat sandwiches, and Gelatos (S$3.50 for small, S$5.50 for medium, S$7.50 for large).

Considering how near I live to Changi Village, I may just pop by sometime soon to feast on Sultana Zwin Olivye Gelato Cafe’s affordable rectangular tacos this weekend!
