Despite its name — which means “Sunday” in French — dessert cafe Dimanche 49 is not only open on Sundays. The name alludes to the co-owners’ routine of meeting every Sunday to explore patisseries when they were studying in Paris.

Launched in April this year, Dimanche 49 is a fully-takeaway concept that specialises in deconstructed gelato and sorbet desserts “with a pastry chef’s twist”.

Co-owners Naomi and Carissa trained at an internationally-recognised Parisian culinary arts school, and have over 20 years of pastry experience between them.

They have worked at patisseries as well as three-Michelin-starred restaurants in France and Singapore.

Instead of trying to incorporate different flavours into the gelato alone, they have curated gelato and sorbet pairings “with gourmet toppings that come together as a reconstructed dessert”.

Their five standard flavours are available at S$7 each.

Wild Strawberries- strawberry gelato, mascarpone, microsponge, crumble

Black Forest – 70% chocolate sorbet, cheesy compote, mascarpone, crumble

Tiramisu – burnt coffee gelato, mascarpone, coca, Kahlua (coffee liqueur)

Noisette – Roasted praline gelato, feuilletine, caramelised hazelnuts

Ispahan – Lychee sorbet, macaron, raspberry compote, rose petals

They also release a seasonal flavour to accompany the main menu from time to time.

Their latest seasonal flavour — Bailey’s Apple Pie — launched on May 16 and will remain available until the end of June.

It comprises of Bailey’s gelato, apple compote, spiced caramel, mascarpone espuma, crumble, and yuzu sponge.

The previous seasonal flavour was a black pepper gelato with green tea cheese foam, yuzu compote, yuzu marshmallows, and crumble.

If one cup is not enough for you, they also sell pints at S$17 each.

You can either self-collect the pints in-store during their operating hours, or opt for S$5 flat fee delivery with a minimum order of two pints.

The waffle-wich (S$15) also known as the gelato waffle burger was previously available in early May.

However, it has been unavailable since Phase 2 (Heightened Alert).

Those who are keen to try may be pleased to know that they will be bringing it back in July.

Available in all their flavours on the menu, a Dimanche 49 spokesperson told Mothership that the Wild Strawberries flavour is the most popular flavour.

The waffle-wich will be served in a brown bag as pictured below:
